Sir Arthur Clarke Awards

Sir Arthur Clarke Awards 2011 winners.

In recognition of notable or outstanding contributions made to all space activities, the Sir Arthur Clarke Awards have been presented annually since 2005.  In the past the Award Ceremony has been an integral part of the UK Space Conference, but as the Conference is now held every other year, to avoid conflicting with the Farnborough Air Show, it has been decided to go ahead with this year’s “Arthurs” Awards to provide complete continuity.  The Award Ceremony will take place at a lunch in the House of Lords in October.

Though primarily designed to reward UK teams and individuals for their achievements over the past year, 2011-2012, the Awards will include International and Lifetime Achievement categories.

Award Categories

Awards are made for achievements in Academic Study/Research, Industry/Project Activities, Education/Outreach, and Broadcast/Written Media. All categories are open to both individual and team entries. In addition there are Lifetime Achievement and International awards.

Nominations

Unlike many other awards nominations can be made by the general public using the form below.  A nominations panel made up of senior representatives from all areas of the space business will ensure that all areas of the business are covered and will reserve the right to move entries from one category to another or add categories if deemed necessary.

Nominations will require full contact details of the Nominee and the Nominator and entry citations will be limited to between 15 and 100 words.

Nominations will close on 14 September 2012.

Judging

The judging Panel will include distinguished individuals and representatives of leading UK and international space organisations. It will have a good balance between industry, academia, the media and other space-related disciplines.

The judging process will be completed in three steps:

  1. Nominations – confirm category and Nominee/Nominator details.
  2. Short-listing – reduce to three in each award category
  3. Selection of award winners.

The final selection of the Award winners in each category will be by secret ballot with the exception of the International Space Achievement Award which will be selected by the Arthur C Clarke Foundation.

The Award Ceremony

The announcement of the winners of each category and the presentation of the Awards will take place at a lunch in the Cholmondeley Room and Terrace in the House of Lords on October 26th 2012.  As numbers will be limited and for reasons of security, admission will be by invitation only.

Sponsors

A number of organisations have already come forward to sponsor the Arthurs 2012 and the Award Ceremony.  Details will be provided shortly.  For any further enquiries or offers of support please click here.
