Public Meeting with popular and technical topics:

Our keynote presentation will be “The Only Intelligent Planet”, a talk by Dr Sue Cartwright of Sheffield University exploring the conundrum of the Fermi Paradox and intelligent life in the Universe.

Certain no less significant will be an insight into the Chinese manned space programme by Bob Christy who is well known for uncovering the secrets of the Russian programme.

And it keeps on coming… Dr John Davies, OPTICON Project Scientist at the Astronomy Technology Centre in Edinburgh, will be talking about Infra-Red Astronomy, covering IR Astronomy from high mountains, planes and satellites (1st generation IRAS + ISO, 2nd generation SIRTF, Herschel, WISE etc, and the 3rd generation James Webb Space Telescope).

Andrew Lound traces the history of Women in Astronomy & Space Science in a talk that ranges from Caroline Herschel to Sally Ride and highlight the obstacles in their path as notable women achieved great things in their fields.

We will also be showing videos on the Voyager Programme and the Space Shuttle over lunchtime for those who are happy to stay glued to their seats.
