We continue to approach the 50th anniversary of the most incredible achievement – landing the first men on the Moon.  Of course, Apollo 11 wasn’t the only flight, so Jerry Stone is giving a presentation about every Apollo mission on its own 50th anniversary, going right through to December 2022, the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 17.  Join us for the third talk in this series.

Following the test flight of the re-designed Apollo Command Module on Apollo 7, the next step was to have been a test of the Lunar Module (LM). However, there were serious delays in its development, which resulted in Apollo 8 flying without a Lunar Module.

In March 1969 the LM was finally ready to make its first manned flight, on a mission in Earth orbit. It meant that astronauts would, for the first time, be in a spacecraft that could not return them to the Earth. The success of the Lunar Module was vital, not just for the safety of the crew, but for the continued schedule of the Apollo project, and the chance to land the first men on the Moon before the end of 1969.

Jerry Stone takes us on the next step on the Apollo story as he continues his series covering every mission.
