Heather Couper passes away

It is with great sadness to report that Heather Couper has passed away after a short illness this week.

Many people within the society knew Heather.  Together with her business partner Nigel Henbest, they used to hold midsummer picnics known as Hencoup parties which many of her friends from the BIS enjoyed.  Entertainment was sometimes provided by attendees who took rocket lanchers and a solar telescope which added to the excitement and fun.

Very sad news news about the death of Heather. She was such a vibrant personality and really put over her enthusiasm for the subject of astronomy. Needless to say she will be sorely missed. from Mat Irvine

Heather will be missed by many, and her input into the education of Space and Science generally was well recognised and she gave input to the Education and Outreach side of the BIS.  She had appeared on Blue Peter and The Sky At Night at times, being invited as a guest and always bringing great energy and enthusiasm.

She also appeared on Celebrity Pointless in 2019 in a science special, with Nigel, competing against other science celebrities such as Dallas Campbell, Lucie Greene and Maggie Aderin-Pocock.
