Low-Cost Life Assessment Of Liquid Rocket Engines by replacing full-scale engine tests with TMF panel tests by P. H. Kringe, J. R. Riccus & M. Oschwal: Liquid rocket engines are key items in present space transport.

The combustion chamber of such an engine is under high temperature and pressure, and reusability can lead to failure due to cyclic loading. Numerical analysis methods can save money, and to obtain experimental data to validate such analysis, a Thermo-Mechanical Fatigue (TMF) test bench has been set up using a diode laser to provide thermal loading.


DEVELOPMENT OF A 10g FEMTO-SATELLITE with Active Attitude Control by Zhongxu Hu, Thomas Timmons, Liviu Stamat & Colin McInnes: This paper describes the initial design of a Femto-satellite measuring 3.5 x 3.5 x 0.5cm, weighing 10g, with active attitude control, and short range RF communication at 868 MHz for networking and swarming.


Thermal Thorium Rocket (Thor) – a new concept for a radioactive decay heated thermal rocket engine by Gábor Bihari: A thermal rocket powered by radioactive heat from Thorium-228 is discussed; Although such a rocket has a low thrust, it can operate continuously for several years, to move large masses about the Solar System.


Path To The First Launch Of The SL-OMV from the UK by Christopher Loghry, James Leak & Dr. John Paffett: The growing number of small launch vehicles will lower the cost of space access, but many challenges remain for small payloads. Many of these challenges can be met through the use of a Small Launch Orbital Maneuvering Vehicle (SL-OMV), which is a low mass and low cost propulsive adapter. The SL-OMV is designed specifically for these small launchers, either vertical or horizontal launch configurations, for vehicles having 150 kg capability or greater; this can be useful for new spaceports, particularly in the United Kingdom.


The Space Law Games: Establishing Fault in Orbital Operations by Christopher Newman, Ralph “Dinz” Dinsley, & Mert Evirgen: This paper proposes “space law games”, in which fictional scenarios could highlight some of the key operational and legal issues resulting from the advent of large constellations, active debris removal, and on-orbit servicing, to explore the need for codification of the norms for safe sustainable satellite operations and clarity on protocols for evidence gathering in damage cases, identify possible problems in evidence gathering using the data currently available, and highlight ways to fill the data gap that currently exists in orbital operations.
