Alastair John Bio

Alistair is the Founder of Race2Space – (www.race2space.org.uk), cademic supervisor of Project Sunride (www.sunride.space/) and Deputy Director of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Sheffield.

· Won the Vice Chancellor’s Award 2022 for outstanding teaching practice and improving student employability

· Lead author on award-winning journal publications in internationally recognised journals, including RAeS young person written paper prize

· Lecturing Aerospace Heat Transfer with outstanding student feedback

· Implementing and running new quadcopter design and build modules for 170 students

· Work package leader on the $5M EU H2020 MADELEINE research project (https://www.madeleine-project.eu/).

· Qualified as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy

· Interdisciplinary Programmes in Engineering exams officer (responsible for the exams of >1000 students)

· Over 8 years’ industrial experience working closely with Rolls-Royce on multi-disciplinary fan and turbine blade design

· Founded Race2Space – A national rocket propulsion competition and linked outreach initiative to accelerate and upskill student rocket teams, provide networking and industry-academia links and increase the diversity of the talent entering the space sector.
