Join us for a special evening with Dr. Mykhailo Andriievskyi, Head of Propulsion Department at Skyrora, the company that has become the most visible symbol of the UK’s push for sovereign launch capability, which policymakers and media routinely frame as the litmus test of a mature space nation.
Skyrora has become a flagship example of UK space sector success, from pioneering domestic launch capability to advancing innovative, environmentally conscious propulsion technologies that aim to carry the next generation of small satellites to orbit from British soil. This talk will explore how Skyrora’s propulsion developments underpin the UK’s ambition to be a serious spacefaring nation, and why these engine and propellant breakthroughs are central to the narrative of national space achievement.

Propulsion has always been at the heart of the BIS, from the earliest studies of advanced rocket engines to visionary work on interplanetary and interstellar missions, and this event connects that heritage directly with one of today’s most dynamic UK launch companies. BIS members with a deep interest in engine performance, propellant innovation and practical launch operations will have a rare opportunity to hear first-hand how Skyrora designs, tests and evolves its propulsion systems, and to discuss how these capabilities shape the future of the UK’s space ambitions.

Speaker: Dr. Mykhailo Andriievskyi has served as the Head of Propulsion Systems Department at Skyrora Ltd, since May 2017.
Prior to this role, Mykhailo worked as a Propulsion Engineer at Yuzhnoye State Design Office from September 2015 to February 2016. Mykhailo holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Propulsion Systems obtained from Oles Honchar Dnipro National University from 2016 to 2020, as well as a Master’s degree in Propulsion Systems, awarded from the same institution between 2010 and 2016.
