Behind the scenes of space mission operations, Flight Dynamics teams ensure that orbital and attitude dynamics follow what conceived years ahead in the minds of scientists around the world. This presentation gives an overview of this poorly known but exciting and fundamental discipline via practical examples from ESA’s recent deep space missions.

Francesco Castellini has a MSc and PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, and has more than 10 years of experience in the fields of space and launch systems, mission operations, flight dynamics and navigation. He’s part of the Science Missions Flight Dynamics section at the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC), participating in software development, mission preparations and operations for all ESA’s deep space missions.
