Christopher MacLeod reviews the prospects for microwave heating and plasma generation as an alternative to combustion in Scramjet-like hypersonic engines.  He discusses recent work in the field and its potential relevance and implications in the future.

Dr. Christopher Macleod is a lecturer and researcher at the University of the Highlands and Islands.  Christopher held several positions as a research scientist at Hughes Aircraft in the USA including team manager before returning to the UK.
