Venue: BIS, London (In-Person Audience Only)
Abstract:
In a rare and intimate setting, you are invited to join Dr. Madhulika Guhathakurta – progenitor of the science of Heliophysics – for a fireside chat exploring our relationship with the Sun.
2024 has seen humanity reach further into the Sun’s atmosphere than ever before. From Parker Solar Probe brushing past million-degree plasma (and becoming humanity’s current speed-record holder), to ESA’s Solar Orbiter capturing the Sun in unprecedented detail – our star isn’t just a big warm light in the sky, rather an active part of our everyday lives.
This evening offers a unique chance to engage with Dr. Guhathakurta as she shares personal reflections and insights from the forefront of solar science, exploring:
- The latest revelations from solar missions reshaping our understanding
- The global, borderless nature of scientific collaboration
- Why space weather matters to our daily lives – from satellites to power grids
- What it truly means to be “living in the Sun’s atmosphere”
Set within the historic halls of the British Interplanetary Society, this fireside chat will be a conversation on what it takes to have a career exploring our place in space. Expect thought-provoking dialogue, audience participation, and the kind of storytelling only a lifelong explorer of the cosmos can provide.
