Vix Southgate

Vix is a high-level networker and connector, an award-winning children’s author and creative communicator, VIP personal manager, scheduler and events facilitator, and multi-skilled entrepreneur and businesswoman.

Vix has been a pro-active volunteer for the BIS since joining in 2010 as a consultant for the Marketing Committee, and has volunteered her time at many events. In 2013 she took over the role of World Space Week Coordination Manager on behalf of the BIS, and since 2016 she has been the BIS’s liaison for our presence at New Scientist Live.

Vix’s outstanding contribution to the BIS awarded her the BIS Silver Comet Pin in 2014, the BIS Patrick Moore Medal in 2016, and the 2018 Sir Arthur Clarke Award for ‘Space Achievement – Education and Outreach, Individual’ award for her commitment and dedication to World Space Week .

In 2020 Vix became the Chair of the BIS Education and Outreach Committee and she has been an active STEM Ambassador promoting the benefits of space exploration to Key Stage 1 -3 since 2012.

Vix is keen to increase the diversity of the membership, encourage and empower volunteers, improve the Society’s public image, and engage and inspire new Members and Fellows.
